Is your car key looking and feeling a little worse for wear?
It still works, but the buttons are worn through, the blade might be wobbly or the casing is splitting apart? If you are reading this, well done for being proactive! Fixing your existing key before it dies completely can save you a lot of money. Having your keys repaired and restored can also be a great way to add value if you are looking to sell your car.
Modern car keys come with so many bells and whistles. Proximity features, remote start, emergency keys hidden inside... the list goes on. Unfortunately with so many features, something can often go wrong after a few years of usage.
Common Key Problems
Remote buttons fall off or the rubber pads wear away, leaving holes in your casing and exposing the electronics inside
Flip blades stop flipping like they should
Black plastic casing starts splitting apart, so the electronic board and transponder are at risk of falling out, leaving you with a heavily sticky-taped or rubber-banded key on its last legs
The key blade detaches from the main part of the key
The key blade gets worn down so much that it doesn’t turn properly in the car’s ignition or door locks anymore
How We Can Help
The auto locksmith’s toolbox is full of ways to fix the problems above and more.
Many of these common problems can be solved by replacing the outer casing or “shell” of the key. If the transponder and electronics (remote control buttons etc) are still working well to open and start the car, we can re-fit these into a brand new shell with a new blade freshly cut to your car’s keycode. This can be a great cost-effective option where there is no need to replace the entire key.
Other key repairs can include replacing missing parts like transponders and remote boards, springs and roll pins.
