Car Immobiliser Installation Brisbane North

Driver using a keyless remote entry fob to unlock a silver vehicle, tested by Northside Car Keys.

Across Brisbane's northern suburbs, many car thefts now begin inside the house rather than at the car. A thief who finds the keys on a bench or hook can usually unlock the vehicle and start it as if they owned it, because the factory immobiliser only checks that the right transponder chip is present. Copied keys and electronic attacks on keyless cars can get around that same single check.

Northside Car Keys fits the ANCAR Anti-Theft System for drivers across Brisbane North who want a second, separate check before the engine will run. Our mobile team offers car immobiliser installation across Brisbane North at homes and workplaces throughout the northside, or you can book the work at our Herston workshop. Once your phone is paired, ANCAR arms and disarms itself in the background, so there is no extra remote to carry and no code to punch in each morning.

ANCAR Immobiliser Installation Across Brisbane North

As an authorised ANCAR installation partner, we supply and fit this one secondary immobiliser and no other brand. Installation is available on site across the northern suburbs or at Unit 3/49 Butterfield Street, Herston.

Your car's own immobiliser keeps doing its job, it reads the chip in the key each time you try to start. ANCAR sits behind it as a second gatekeeper that wants approval from your registered phone, or from an approved override, before the engine is allowed to run. Think of it as a second password for the car. The key gets past the first check, and only an authorised phone or override gets past the second.

Why Brisbane North Drivers Are Adding A Second Immobiliser

Factory immobilisers have been compulsory on new cars sold in Australia since 2001, yet vehicle theft remains a regular problem across the northside. Queensland Police figures tabled in State Parliament recorded 509 unlawful use of a motor vehicle offences in the North Brisbane police district between 1 March and 1 June 2025, a rate of about 72 per 100,000 residents.

Police and Queensland ministers have repeatedly pointed out that offenders often get around factory immobilisers by entering a home and taking the keys. When the Queensland Government launched its secondary immobiliser trial in 2023, the then Police Minister said police could not identify a single Queensland case of a car fitted with a secondary immobiliser being stolen. That is not a guarantee, but it shows why a second layer that does not rely on the key has drawn so much attention.

How ANCAR Works With Your Factory Immobiliser

ANCAR does not remove, bypass or replace the immobiliser the manufacturer built into your car. It adds a second, independent layer that needs authorisation from the registered ANCAR app over a secure, short-range Bluetooth link.

Each start attempt passes through two checks:

  1. The car's own immobiliser confirms that the key's transponder chip is recognised.
  2. ANCAR separately looks for approval from the paired phone or an authorised override.
  3. The engine runs only after both checks have been passed.

When you switch off and walk away, ANCAR arms itself. As you come back with the authorised phone, it disarms, so there is no PIN to enter before each drive.

Households with more than one driver can pair extra phones to the same car. A single ANCAR app can also look after several vehicles, provided each one has its own ANCAR unit fitted.

What ANCAR Is Designed To Stop

Modern theft is not limited to smashing a window and forcing the ignition. Many methods now target the key itself or the electronics that talk to it. ANCAR's separate approval step is aimed at these weak points:

  • Keys taken in a break-in — The stolen key may pass the factory check, but the engine still waits for ANCAR approval.
  • Copied keys — A cloned transponder can imitate the original key, yet it cannot supply ANCAR's separate authorisation.
  • Relay attacks on keyless cars — ANCAR's approval does not come from the key fob's radio signal, so relaying that signal does not satisfy it.
  • CAN bus injection — Because ANCAR works outside the CAN bus network, attacks through that network do not reach it.
  • Someone else using your key — Having the right key is not enough without the second approval.

There is no standard dashboard light or visible unit that reveals where ANCAR has been fitted. ANCAR also keeps the finer details of how it is installed confidential, which leaves less information available to anyone trying to find and defeat it.

ANCAR Compared With Alarms, Trackers And Keypad Immobilisers

Vehicle security products are often grouped together, but they do quite different jobs. Some make noise, some help find the car afterwards, and some stop it being driven in the first place.

  • Factory immobiliser — Fitted by the manufacturer and matched to the transponder chip in your key. It is the first check, not a second one.
  • Keypad secondary immobilisers — These also add a second check, but the driver usually enters a code before each trip. ANCAR is designed to arm and disarm automatically through the paired phone, with an optional keypad as a backup.
  • Kill switches — These cut a circuit or power feed to stop the engine. ANCAR uses a hidden authorisation layer instead and is fitted without cutting or splicing factory wiring.
  • Car alarms — These sound a warning when something is detected. ANCAR does not sound an alarm; its role is to stop the car being driven.
  • GPS trackers — These help locate a vehicle after it has been moved. ANCAR has no tracking function and aims to keep the car where you left it.
  • Central locking — This controls the doors, not whether the engine can be started.

We supply and install ANCAR only. Alarms, GPS trackers and central-locking systems are not part of this service.

What Happens During Installation

A careful installation lets ANCAR work smoothly alongside your keys, ignition and existing electronics. We fit it without cutting, joining or splicing any factory wiring, without tying it into the CAN bus and without major dashboard removal.

Most installations take about 90 minutes, depending on the car and where the work is done. A typical appointment covers:

  1. Checking your vehicle details and confirming compatibility.
  2. Fitting the ANCAR unit in a concealed position.
  3. Pairing your phone with the ANCAR app.
  4. Setting up your preferred arming and disarming options.
  5. Showing you how Service Mode and the manual override work.
  6. Testing that the car and the immobiliser both operate correctly.

ANCAR presents its installation as warranty-friendly because factory wiring is left intact. Decisions about your new-car warranty still rest with the manufacturer or dealer, so if you have concerns about a particular model, check with them before booking.

Living With ANCAR Day To Day

Once your phone is paired and automatic disarming is turned on, you can leave the phone in your pocket or bag and drive as usual.

When the car goes in for a service at your local northside mechanic, Service Mode lets them drive it without your phone. You switch it on before dropping the car off and turn it off again when you collect it.

If your phone is lost, stolen or out of battery, every installation includes a manual override so you are not left stranded. Drivers who like a physical backup can also have the optional keypad fitted.

Which Brisbane North Vehicles Benefit Most?

ANCAR suits drivers who want a layer of protection that does not depend on the key alone. The final decision rests on compatibility with the vehicle's make, model, year and electronics.

It is often a good fit for:

  • Family homes where car keys are kept near the front or back door
  • Cars parked in open driveways, carports or on the street overnight
  • Late-model vehicles with keyless entry or push-button start
  • Work utes and vans that sit on job sites or in shared yards
  • Unit and townhouse residents who park in shared basement car parks
  • Vehicles driven by more than one person in the household
  • Owners who would rather not enter a code before every trip
  • Vehicles considered attractive to thieves

No device can rule out every risk. ANCAR works best alongside everyday habits like keeping keys out of sight, locking the car and the house, and parking in well-lit or secured areas.

Mobile Installation Or Our Herston Workshop

Most northside customers choose mobile installation at home or at work. The vehicle needs to be somewhere the technician can work safely for about an hour and a half, such as a private driveway, garage, carport or a secure workplace car park. When you book, tell us the exact address and where the car is parked.

If your car is in a shared basement or common car park in a unit complex, check that your building allows contractors to work there, and let us know about gate codes, height limits or visitor parking rules before the appointment.

If the location isn't suitable, or you would rather drop the car off, our Herston workshop at Unit 3/49 Butterfield Street offers dedicated parking, a customer waiting area and secure indoor vehicle storage if needed. Workshop appointments must be booked ahead, as our technicians spend much of the day on mobile jobs.

Why Choose Northside Car Keys?

Northside Car Keys is a licensed automotive locksmith business and an authorised ANCAR installation partner. Jon and Lauren Dearness founded the company in 2016, and the team brings more than 20 years of combined industry experience.

Managing Director Jon Dearness trained as a locksmith apprentice in Brisbane and has focused exclusively on automotive locksmithing for more than a decade. Our work centres on car keys, locks, ignitions and vehicle security.

That background matters for an immobiliser installation. Our technicians work with transponder keys and factory immobilisers every day, so they understand how ANCAR needs to sit alongside your car's existing security.

Serving Brisbane North From Herston

Our workshop is on Butterfield Street in Herston, at the city end of the northside. From there, Lutwyche Road, Gympie Road and Sandgate Road carry our mobile technicians out to suburbs such as Windsor, Wooloowin, Clayfield, Gordon Park, Stafford, Everton Park, Geebung, Zillmere, Bald Hills and Sandgate, and across into Albany Creek.

Everton Park is roughly 8 kilometres from the workshop, Albany Creek about 15 kilometres and Sandgate around 20 kilometres by road. Travel times vary with traffic on the main arterials, so we confirm an appointment window when you book rather than an exact arrival time.
